Our vision of Sunflower Cohousing is one of an open, inclusive community committed to sustainable living and drawing on a wealth of other inspirations. We welcome people of all ages, abilities and nationalities. We try to achieve a balance between hard work and play and to achieve a healthy and mutually supportive lifestyle.
Did you know that sunflowers are the symbol of fidelity and friendship in Dutch literature?
The Société Civile Immobilière (SCI) du Tournesol was setup as a non-profit making company to purchase a site in the New Aquitaine region of France for the community. We now own a 4-acre property that includes an existing two bedroom house. It sits at the head of a large courtyard that is bounded on three sides by outbuildings. In the adjoining field we have already established an orchard and a potager.
We have started to convert the West barn into additional, small, self-contained houses facing into the courtyard. We have outline planning permission for up to ten houses (including family homes), and detailed planning permission for the first five dwellings. They will be in a terraced style, and each will have its own private garden space to the rear, and a semi-private terrace to the front, opening onto the main courtyard.
